Angela Read, LAc

Chinese Medicine is a holistic system, rooted in both science and the ancient healing arts, that incorporates the wisdom of thousands of years of effective healthcare. Utilizing acupuncture along with many other modalities, this approach considers our body an interconnected being where the mind, body and spirit or the physical, mental and emotional aspects of oneself are all equally important to wellness. This perspective on healing gives me the ability to go beyond the symptoms presently afflicting you and see deeper into the root of the dis-ease.

The traditional healing of Chinese medicine is both gentle and powerful, it is also very effective at activating your body’s own ability to heal. My approach is always patient centered. You are a unique individual whose health, no matter the diagnosis or symptoms, are specific to you. Together, we will choose the focus of your care and create a treatment plan tailored to address your specific needs and goals. Through an approach to care that inspires healing by understanding your condition, nourishing your body with nutrition and encouraging personal growth and positive choices, we can set the foundation for a more healthy and vital life. I hope to inspire and empower you to value your well-being as a sacred responsibility.

I believe integrative medicine is the best approach to every patient’s health care and I happily work along with your primary care doctor or other types of practitioners to collaborate on a plan for you.

Using a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, reflexology, Aroma Acupoint Therapy (use of high quality essential oils on acupuncture points) and lifestyle and nutritional wisdom, we will work to restore the balance of your body and allow the opportunity and space for healing to occur. My patients find the treatments relaxing and usually enjoy a nap during their session.

I’ve had the honor of working with many families, children, and adults of all ages and enjoy treating all kinds of health concerns. I have a passion for treating acute and chronic pain, especially related to sports medicine and athletic performance, women’s health and fertility, mental/emotional wellness and immune support for autoimmune disorders and cancer patients.

Whatever your health goals, I am happy to meet you there. My hope is that we can look to a long road of health together and make changes that improve all aspects of your life.

Angela Read obtained her Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAcOM) from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2007 after completing an undergraduate degree in Biology and Botany at Oregon State University.  She is licensed by the Oregon Medical Board and nationally board certified by the NCCAOM.

Growing up surrounded by natural beauty on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, Angela felt most alive while out hiking and developed a passion for the natural world.  The endorphins of exercise coupled with the gorgeous vistas imprinted a distinct feeling of what vitality and health feels like and the realization of nature’s healing power and wisdom.  Fascinated with the body as well, she created her own pre-natural medicine path. Upon graduation from OSU, she sought an experience in naturopathic medicine and worked as a medical assistant to Edythe Vickers, ND, LAc at An Hao Clinic in Portland, OR.  There, she witnessed acupuncture as a central part of healing and decided to formally study Chinese medicine. After finishing her years at OCOM, she returned to An Hao Clinic to practice until the spring of 2016 when she joined Bambu Clinic.

Angela uses Chinese Medicine to treat the whole body and specializes in:

  • Pain management – acute and chronic conditions
  • Sports medicine- performance and rehabilitation
  • Women’s health and fertility
  • Mental and emotional wellness
  • Immune support for autoimmune and cancer patients

In her spare time she enjoys being active, practicing yoga, healthy cooking, adventures in nature, and spending time with her daughter and husband.

As a patient of Angela’s for nearly two years, I still walk away from each Chinese Medicine treatment with a renewed appreciation for her expert services, especially regarding acupuncture. Angela has an uncanny knack for diagnosing the root-cause of injuries that I’ve sustained over twenty years as a competitive runner and cyclist. In addition to addressing ligament and soft-tissue damage, Angela’s treatments greatly contribute to my mental and emotional well-being. Angela is equally adept at bodywork and nutritional counseling. And her expertise in prescribing herbs complements her acupuncture treatments. While I still occasionally seek therapeutic massage, physical therapy, and chiropractic care, Angela’s practice is at the heart of this integrated care. I heartily recommend Angela’s services to my family and friends. –– Jeff M.

With general supportive acupuncture throughout my pregnancy, consistent attunement to my status, thoughtful perspective, targeted interventions for acute symptoms, moxabustion in the third trimester to help turn our baby from breach to cephalic positioning, and finally electroacupuncture to encourage labor onset, Angela Read and her medicine promoted a healthy, comfortable pregnancy, expedient labor, and safe delivery of our child. Angela’s thoughtful use of acupuncture combined with her compassionate listening and wholehearted engagement in the relationship makes her both an effective and a cherished healer.” –– Meg C.

I started seeing Angela when I was pregnant and having terrible hip pain. My hips felt 50% better after the first treatment. She also helped me with the anxiety I felt as a soon-to-be mother, her kind words were so reassuring and she really listened and cared about my wellbeing. Angela kept me feeling good through my pregnancy and now I have a healthy baby girl. –– NB

After a car accident, I was having neck pain and shoulder pain that my chiropractor was treating me for but my healing progress was slow. He referred me to Angela and the acupuncture and cupping helped tremendously. I no longer have neck or shoulder pain but see Angela seasonally for allergies and stress. I can’t recommend her highly enough! –– RL

Angela is very skilled in listening, interpreting and needling me. I have found great relief with pain and migraines. If you need a seasonal tune up or have ongoing issues, I highly recommend her. –– NL

I’ve tried to quit smoking many times throughout my life. I came to Angela by recommendation from a friend to help me quit. I had regular treatments that helped me relax and cope with the cravings. She encouraged me and believed in me. I am now a non-smoker and a believer!! –– Karen W.
