Yeast, or candida albicans, is an opportunistic infection, meaning that it sets up shop wherever things are out of balance.
Yeast infections are common in women’s vaginal tracts, and in areas where there are creases in the skin and moisture collects, such as underarms, groin, and breast folds.
Yeast can also overgrow internally, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract. Common external symptoms include redness, itching, and pain at the site of the infection. Internally, one may experience bloating and gas, as well as headaches and flu-type symptoms.
We look at your health history to get an idea of why your body is allowing this opportunistic infection to exist. Often, we make dietary and lifestyle suggestions that will allow your body eliminate yeast, as well as giving remedies that assist in this process.
In patients with excess yeast, we usually also find a high level of toxicity, which may include heavy metals and other health-detracting substances. This pairing occurs because yeast can help to metabolize these impurities, which may be the reason for the yeast’s presence.
If this is an issue for you, we will work with you to insure that your body is fully processing and excreting these substances, which will in turn make the yeast unnecessary.
